We are Maine Cottage - since 1988
Maine Cottage is the original home to spirited fine furnishings - proudly made in the USA. You will delight in the design and practicality of our styles, colors and premium American made quality. Maine Cottage is not your ordinary furniture company, it's an extraordinary "experience".

We invite you to feel good about choosing Maine Cottage. Our furniture is built principally in shops here in New England and North Carolina. Everything is made to last a lifetime. This makes choosing Maine Cottage an excellent value: you'll love living with it for many years. There are remarkably few things you can say that about today.

What we Do
Every piece of Maine Cottage furniture is made and custom-finished to order. And it's easy to choose as everything works together: colors, fabrics, styling and scale. With over 200 fabrics and 40 color choices, there is flexibility and ample opportunity to be expressive in your home.

How we do it
Our professional in-store Design Consultants provide friendly service and thoughtful design solutions. We know your time is precious, so we're here to guide you every step of the way - as much or little as you prefer - through to a "white glove" home delivery. And because our Design Consultants (happily) do not work on commission, you'll feel comfortable shopping at your own pace. The personalized service we provide has led us to lasting relationships of confidence and trust.

Made & Delivered within the USA
Made to order principally (90%) in New England and North Carolina, Maine Cottage is timeless furniture forms combined with beautiful colors and fabrics. Every piece is made and/or finished with high standards of excellence - then shipped, delivered and installed directly in your home by a professional "white glove" service.

Even in Blue, Maine Cottage is GREEN
Maine Cottage furniture is principally manufactured domestically using responsible, sustainable methods and materials in New England and North Carolina. With 20 years of conservationist business practices behind us, you can feel good about Maine Cottage. We've always said "Even in blue, our furniture is green." We do it because it feels right to us. A Brief Maine Cottage History
How did it all begin? And what did it take for us to build a home furnishings business from scratch? View a 1996 Down East magazine article as a PDF.

It took vision: provided for us by artist and designer Carol Bass when she saw photo stylists painting 'found' cottage furniture to add color to presentations in home decorating magazines.

It also required a plan: developed and executed by our founder and president Peter Bass who saw parallels in the footwear and apparel business that presaged opportunities for marketers of colorful, casual home furnishings to a new generation of consumers who grew up with color magazines, TV and movies.

We opened for business 20 years ago here in Yarmouth, Maine with these basic ingredients plus samples of eleven furniture designs prototyped by a carpenter named ‘Cookie’, five bold colors from Carol’s paint palette, and an offer from a friend to design the first brochure for free.

Maine Cottage Today
We've come a long way. The vision, the plan, some good fortune and the enthusiastic energy and dedication of Maine Cottage people have resulted in a flourishing national company with three retail showrooms and a fully e-commerce website. We also have relationships with retailers and design professionals across the country.

Community
Community is very important to us. Maine Cottage principally directs its charitable giving and leadership support to the Greater Portland chapter of Habitat for Humanity. To find out how you can become involved with this important organization, please visit www.habitat.org.

We also support local charitable organizations and schools that are important to the family and friends of our employees.

Behind the Scenes
Maine Cottage room setting photography takes place in and around the Greater Portland, Maine area in "borrowed" private homes of friends and friends-of-friends and sometimes right here in our Yarmouth company store. Furnishings are made to order and styled by room type with complementary accessories. There are many challenges to working in this way rather than the more typical studio photography, and the results speak for themselves. The photography is as fresh and inviting as our Maine Cottage furnishings and style.
