Maine Cottage UpholsteryMaine Cottage upholstered furniture is benchmade and custom-finished - fully upholstered and/or slipcovered - to your order in North Carolina. This means an artisan produces the components, assembles them expertly at a bench and finishes them in the fabric of your choice.
Built to LastMaine Cottage upholstered furniture is built using the best traditional methods and the highest standards of quality. Each piece has a 5/4 kiln dried hardwood frame: joints are doweled, glued and block reinforced for superior rigidity and strength combined with an eight-way hand-tied coil deck and firm poly-wrapped foam core cushions. This level of quality makes our upholstered furniture comfortable, supportive and virtually sag-proof.
Cover Style?
Fully Upholstered
The fabric is attached directly to the frame for a neater, more tailored appearance. When the cover becomes worn it will have to be re-upholstered or covered with a slipcover.
Slipcovered
A slipcover is a removable, fitted (usually "looks" fully upholstered) fabric cover that goes onto an upholstered muslin base for a more casual, relaxed look. On pieces with simple lines the visual difference are minimal. Slipcovers may be changed or replaced at will.
Slipcover Only
If you want more than one slipcover or need a replacement, we can have it made it for you. We can produce slipcovers for every slipcover-able piece and seat cushion we offer - in every fabric in our line. We accept COM too. Please call us for pricing.
Leg Finish Choices Most pieces are offered with your choice of three leg finishes:
General Upholstery Care
• Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry white cloth.
• Avoid using household cleaners, spot removers, waxes and products containing ammonia.
• Do not set hot or damp items directly on furniture.
• Use felt pads to protect surfaces from scratches and imprints.
• If necessary, use a shim to ensure furniture sits evenly.
Fabric Care
• While all fabric will fade over time, direct sunlight may dramatically fade dark colors. Avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight.
• Always blot spills immediately with a clean, dry white cloth.
• Annual professional cleaning is recommended for general upholstery care.
• Over time, cushions will compress. Vacuum with an upholstery attachment, fluff and rotate cushions once or twice a month to keep them looking fresh and to help them wear evenly.
Nano-Tex Fabric CleaningMaine Cottage fabrics are protected by spill and stain-resistant Nano-tex.

Slipcover Care:
• Vacuum slipcovers regularly with upholstery attachment (twice a month is recommended).
• Direct sunlight may cause the fabric to fade unevenly.
• Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry white absorbent cloth.
• For even wear, flip and rotate the seat and back slipcovers.
• To prevent color variations, always clean the entire slipcover. As with clothing, some fading will occur.
Start HereWe make it easy to fill rooms and entire homes with beautiful custom-finished furniture in your choice of colors and fabrics. Our in-store Design Consultants are here to guide you every step of the way. Here's how we'll get started.
Measure Your RoomBefore choosing furniture, we'll consider the layout of the room and your home and discuss the basic elements, including doors, windows, closets, fireplaces and stoves, heating vents and electrical outlets. We'll discuss lighting and rugs too. Next, we'll guide you in measuring the perimeter of the room and come up with a simple floor plan to plot your
furniture placement.
How to Measure for DeliveryOnce you've chosen the furniture you like, it's critical that it can be delivered through all the entries, elevators and stairs of your residence. We want to make sure there are no surprises on delivery day.
A Simple Guide to a Successful Home Delivery1. Measure the height and width of your exterior and interior doorways, including elevator doors.
2. Use our furniture measurements to determine whether a piece can go straight through a doorway or brought in at an angle or on end.
3. Make sure there's a clear path in front of and beyond each doorway, including any fixtures, decorative mouldings, interior walls, ceiling heights, stairs and banisters that may block easy manuvering once the furniture is inside.
Furniture can be brought
straight in if the back height or depth of the piece is less than the width of each door, entry, hall or stairs - all pathways, stairs and halls-including any turns-are openor wide enough for the piece.
Furniture can be brought in
at an angle if the depth of a piece is less than the width of the doorway, and the amount of unobstructed clearance for all doors, stairs and halls is adequate to allow for a piece to clear it.
Furniture
can be brought in
on its end if there's anything in the way on either side of the doors to prevent it from being brought straight in, the width of the piece will clear the height of the door when the piece is on end - the diagonal depth will clear the width of the door - once inside, a piece will clear all widths and ceiling heights of all halls and stairs including turns.
